About Hulunbuir Grassland Scenic Area

Located in northeastern Inner Mongolia, Hulunbuir Grassland Scenic Area encompasses an immense natural prairie landscape stretching over 100,000 square kilometers, making it one of the largest intact temperate grasslands globally. The region is characterized by gently undulating hills, vast patches of wildflowers, crystal-clear rivers, and traditional Mongolian yurts dotting the horizon. This grassland ecosystem supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including Mongolian gazelles, red deer, and numerous bird species such as eagles and cranes. The Hulunbuir area holds significant cultural importance as home to the Mongol ethnic group, whose traditional nomadic lifestyle is celebrated through seasonal festivals, horseback riding, and traditional music and dance events. Visitors can immerse themselves in authentic Mongolian culture by staying at locally operated ger camps and participating in activities like horse trekking, archery, and falconry. The scenic area features several notable landmarks, including the Hulun Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Inner Mongolia, and the gently flowing Yimin River, creating scenic riparian habitats.
